Maggie's Crayon

The following article, What Maggie's Crayon Reminded Me About Parenting, is very cute and perfect for our first week back to school in Texas.  I'm thinking of even carrying a broken crayon around to remind me when I forget to breathe.

Don't Quit

When I was a child, this poem was posted in our house.  I think it has become a part of who I am...ingrained in my very being.  I definitely believe that the messages we give to our kids will shape them as they grow into adults.

Don't Quit
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,

When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,

And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;

Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,

Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup,

And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,

And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,

So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Bring game, not blame, as school year starts | Local Voices | Fort Worth, Arlington, Northeas...

With only one week until the start of another school year, I'm amazed to realize that I have one daughter entering high school and the other one in 2nd grade.  It seems like only yesterday that my mom was a band booster parent.  Now I'm the booster parent!  I'm so grateful that my mom took the time to be involved in my school and our community and now I want to do the same for my daughters.

Studies have proven that children succeed with the support of their parents and/or mentors.  The following article challenges us to get involved and help to make a difference in our schools.
